Tailoring Leveling Guide

Tailoring can be a profession that many choose as it is similar to a gathering profession in a way, in that you will be gathering cloth from mobs during questing and instances. To make use of these, you can train as tailor and turn them into a variety of items to sell.

You can make these items as a tailor:

Turn cloths into bolts

Cloth armor

Bags – these can be lucrative

Shirts

Special clothes like tuxedos

Flying carpet, Magnificent flying carpet and Frosty flying carpet – these are flying mount, made at a skill from 310 onwards, can only be used by yourself.

Professions that go well with tailoring

Tailoring is best done with these professions:

Enchanting – this is because as a tailor, you will make multiple items of clothing, which you can disenchant to get reagents to do and level up your enchanting.

Skinning – some recipes for boots and bag require leather, but not all do, so skinning can complement tailoring to an extent.

Mining – gems and eternals are required for some advanced recipes, so mining can complement tailoring to an extent.

Another gathering profession – You will gather cloth in your quests, and if you want to, you can do a gathering profession such as mining, herbalism or skinning (as above) to generate income.

Here’s how to level up your tailoring:

1. See your tailoring trainer when you’re in a city or town to get your tailoring recipes.

As you level your character, level your tailoring with your trainer, so that as you gather new materials, you’ll be able to use them to create pieces with your new recipes. Use your minimap to search for trainers, or ask a guard or sentinel where the tailoring trainer is.

Here are the stages of tailoring and the level character and tailoring level required:

Apprentice Tailor – 5 / nil

Journeyman Tailor – 10 / 50

Expert Tailor – 20 / 125

Artisan Tailor – 35 / 200

Master Tailor – 50 / 250 (Burning Crusade)

Grand Master Tailor – 65 / 350 (WOTLK)

Illustrious Tailor – 425 (Cataclysm)

2. As you level up with quests and instances, you’ll be collecting various types of cloth in newer and higher level areas.

The cloth you will collect are:

Linen Cloth

Wool Cloth

Silk Cloth

Mageweave

Runecloth

Netherweave

Frostweave

Some recipes will also need items such as:

Thread

Leather

Gems

Potions

3. Make items to use or to sell for gold

As you create items, you can sell them or use them or give them to members of your party to use. Some examples of useful items include:

a) 32 slot bags

As people need storage space for looting and for gathering professions. These bags are:

Abyssal Bag – 32 slot bag for warlocks, which requires 435 tailoring and revered with Knights of the Ebon Blade. Reagents are: 4 Ebonweave, 2 Spellweave, Eternium Thread

Mysterious Bag – 32 slot enchanting bag, which requires 440 tailoring and revered with Wyrmrest Accord. Reagents are: 4 Spellweave, 2 Moonshroud, Eternium Thread

Emerald Bag – 32 slot herb bag, which requires 435 tailoring and revered with Kalu’ak. Reagents are: 4 Moonshroud, 6 Frost Lotus

b) Spellthread

These are special items of clothing which require level 400 and above tailoring and which provide buffs for its wearers such as spell power (+35 to + 50) and stamina or spirit.

The types of spellthread which are bind on equip and can be used by others, are:

Azure Spellthread, Shining Spellthread – require level 400, and recipe from trainer

Sapphire Spellthread, Brilliant Spellthread – require level 430, and need to be exalted with Kirin Tor and Argent Crusade to be able to make it

The Spellthreads that are bind on pickup and can be only used by the tailor, applied to your cloak, are:

Masters Spellthread, Sanctified Spellthread –require level 405 and Eternium thread sold by vendors.

c) Flying Carpet items

Flying Carpet – requires level 60, level 300 tailoring, expert riding and can only be used in Outland and Northrend. Reagents are: 6 Bolt of Netherweave, 4 Golden Draenite, 4 Arcane Dust, 5 Heavy Silken Thread.

Magnificent Flying Carpet – requires level 70, level 425 tailoring, artisan riding and can only be used in Outland and Northrend. Reagents are: 12 Bolt of Imbued Frostweave, 4 Monarch Topaz, 4 Red Dye, 2 Yellow Dye, 4 Iceweb Spider Silk.

Frosty Flying Carpet – requires level 70, level 425 tailoring, artisan riding and can only be used in Outland and Northrend. Reagents are: Moonshroud, Spellweave, Ebonweave, 4 Frozen Orb.
